Susan’s Closet, A benefit for the Northwest Louisiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, to be held January 26, 2013 from 8am to 2pm at First Baptist Church Gymnasium in Shreveport

Susan’s Closet is an annual fund raising event for the Northwest Louisiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure while helping young girls participate in their formal events with pride.  This event aims to outfit high-school and college age girls with beautiful and current pre-owned formal dresses for their many special occasions like homecoming, pageants, and prom. Girls and their parents from all over the ARK-LA-TEX area are invited to peruse the racks of many dresses which will be donated from locals and sold for $25 each, regardless of the original purchase price.  There is a 3 dress maximum per girl and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Northwest Louisiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen of the Cure. The one day event will be held again this year on Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be hosted at the First Baptist Church gymnasium in Shreveport, at 543 Ockley Drive. An educational table with literature for young women will be an integral part of the event giving every girl and her parent/guardian, an opportunity to learn a lifesaving breast health message and encourage them to be proactive in their health.

Susan's Closet needs gently used, current, formal gowns of all sizes to be donated in order to make this event a success. In addition, little girl pageantry dresses and rhinestone jewelry will also be accepted and sold.  Many of you have dresses hanging in your closet and have wondered what to do with them. By donating your tax deductible gowns to Susan's Closet, you will be able to help many girls who may not have the opportunity to attend their special events to do so with pride. You will also be helping the local affiliate find a cure for breast cancer and providing local women with needed mammograms and educational services.  Please donate your dresses at any of our sponsor's locations any time before January 19th during their regular business hours. Drop off locations include:

  • Any Porter’s location in Shreveport-Bossier
  • Strandz Hair Design in Haughton, LA – 318 949 0980
  • Hers Bridal in Minden, LA – 318 377 6669

Please be sure the donated dresses can be distinguished from other dresses by attaching a note designating the dress as being intended for Susan’s Closet. Tax donation slips will be available at drop off locations.  For more information regarding the event, contact Lindsay Dean at komen-executivedirector@hotmail.com  or  visit our website at www.komennwla.org.
