Affiliate Funding Opportunities
Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure fund a variety of
community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and
treatment projects for the medically underserved. Over 75% of an
Affiliate’s net income stays in the community in which it was raised.
The Northwest Louisiana Affiliate works with local medical experts and
community leaders to conduct a comprehensive community needs assessment
annually. We fund non-duplicative, community-based breast health
education, breast cancer screening, and support programs for the medically
underserved in Northwest Louisiana.
Our grant cycle runs from April 1st through March 31st of each year.
Applications will be available in September and the proposals are due to
our office on November 20, 2010.

$187,486 IN EDUCATION AND SCREENING GRANTS AWARDED TO LOCAL
ORGANIZATIONS
Funds Raised in Northwest Louisiana Aid Community

Northwest Louisiana – March 3,
2010 – The Northwest Louisiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen for
the Cure® has announced the awarding $187,486 in breast cancer
screening and education grants. The 2010 grants slate moves Komen
for the Cure closer to accomplishing its goal of reducing the rates
of breast cancer mortality in Louisiana by providing free or reduced
cost mammograms and education to thousands of women and men in
Northwest Louisiana.
The Northwest Louisiana affiliate plays an integral role, along with
121 other Komen Affiliates throughout the United States, in raising
funds to support Komen’s promise to end breast cancer forever. Komen
affiliates raise funds used to support local grants program through
locally-held Komen Race for the Cure® events or other means such as
Tough Enough to Wear Pink, Susan’s Closet, Pink in the Rink, and
events partnering with local businesses.
84 cents of every dollar received by the affiliate stays in
Northwest Louisiana supporting community breast health programs for
under-served people. A minimum of 25 percent of funds raised by the
Northwest Louisiana affiliate is contributed directly to Susan G.
Komen for the Cure’s national research grant program.

2010 Grant Slate |
| Major recipients of the 2010
grant cycle include: “Partners in Wellness” free cancer screening
program at LSUHSC-Shreveport, Martin Luther King Health Center’s
“Women’s Health Program”, Northwestern State University of Louisiana
Department of Health and Human Performance program “Take Action
against Breast Cancer”. Smaller grants were awarded to Bossier
Parish School Nurses and North Caddo Medical Center for education
focusing on teen girls and breast self awareness |
