Funding Priorities

A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

Brief Summary of Priorities

Based on a community needs assessment, the NWLA Affiliate of Komen has identified the three following funding priority areas:

1. To reduce early breast cancer death in African American and rural populations though breast cancer prevention services.

2. To increase provider and community collaboration by funding health system and community partnerships to increase access to services, especially in Bienville, Caddo, Claiborne and Webster Parishes.

3. To identify and promote all breast cancer prevention methods to individuals who are uninsured and underinsured in Northwest Louisiana.

*Priorities were updated in the fall of 2014 using Quantitative Data gathered from the 2015 Community Profile to be released in the summer of 2015.
